I am a curious and passionate learner, educator and researcher, whose research on retirement planning and time use has fueled my continuing interest in helping people plan for their lives in retirement. It was my work as a recreation therapist in long term care and neuro-rehabilitation that fueled a lifelong interest in learning how and why leisure (enjoyable and personally meaningful pursuits) can be a powerful resource for people experiencing challenging life events, such as living with a chronic illness or divorce.

I completed masters studies at Dalhousie University, before going to the University of Georgia for a PhD. I then did a four-year stint at Penn State University before joining Dalhousie University’s School of Health and Human Performance.

Since retirement in 2023 I have been actively trying to put into practice my own research and teachings about living your best life in retirement. I currently serve on the Seniors’ College Association of Nova Scotia Curriculum Committee. I hold adjunct faculty status at Dal in order to be able to still supervise students and participate in research.
