ADRP Benefits Committee

The ADRP has a Benefits Committee that serves the needs of ADRP members with respect to Extended Health and Travel Insurance Benefits and any other benefit deemed by the Board to be within its mandate. It does this by recommending types of health benefits for coverage, acting as a watchdog over the administration of benefits that are governed and administered by Dalhousie University, and answering questions from and addressing issues faced by ADRP members that are brought to its attention.

The ADRP Benefits Committee generally has 4-5 members who meet at least once yearly. The early-retiree (under 65 years of age) Benefits Committee member serves as a non-voting member of the Dalhousie University Employee Benefits Advisory Committee (EBAC). Three Benefits Committee members serve as voting members of the 5 member Dalhousie University Retiree Benefits Advisory Committee (RBAC) that oversees benefits for retirees aged 65 years and older.

Benefits Information

The easiest way to find information regarding extended health and travel benefits is on the University website Retirees Pension and Benefits page. This page includes information on the under 65 years and over 65 years plans, most recent Benefits rates, most recent Benefits newsletter, voluntary accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and travel coverage.

Tuition Waiver for Retirees and Dependants

As a Dalhousie retiree, you may be eligible to receive a tuition waiver benefit for yourself and/or your dependants. Eligibility is based on your employment group and years of service prior to retirement. Please contact Employee Benefits to confirm your eligibility for this benefit.

Dal benefits contacts:   benefits@dal.ca or 902- 494-1122.

Library Access

Your DalCard is your library card.

As per a January 2014 letter to the ADRP President from the University Librarian, Dalhousie will provide access to all Dal Libraries e-resources to any retired employee upon request, for a period of five years, renewable at the end of the five years. The retiree would just send a request via e-mail in order to set this up (NetID, which you are able to keep as a retiree, is needed).

Other University Services

As per the DFA agreement, their retirees will continue to have access to Dalplex at the 50% community fee (some restrictions in hours of use may apply) and to Information Technology Services.
